Kedarkantha Trek Overview

Kedarkantha is considered one of the best winter hiking location and trek in Uttarakhand, India. Altitude at summit is 12500 feet,  It is one of the best trek to full fill your satisfaction about trekking. This trek is quite special because it has stunning views of the entire mountains from Day 3 of our hike. Today Kedarkantha is the topmost trek of Uttarakhand Himalayas. Kedarkantha is an incredible place to hike, stay and enjoy the sunrise and sunsets.  The Trek is a classic winter trek that provides a great opportunity for trekkers to explore something new about the nature, and experience the life of remote villages of Garhwal Himalayas.

ITINERARY (Dehradun - Dehradun)

DAY 01Drive From Dehradun To Sankri Base Village (198 Kms, 8 Hours Drive )

  • The group will assemble at the pickup point at 06:00 AM.
  • We’ll drive towards Sankri, which is the starting point for the trek.
  • Reach Sankri by evening. Arrival assistance followed by the introduction of our Trek leader and Support staff.
  • Check-in to our designated hotel/homestay, the rest of the day is at leisure and you’re advised to relax and prepare for the trek ahead.
  • The dinner will be served in the evening followed by an overnight stay in Sankri Village.

*The pickup point can be Dehradun Railway Station or Dehradun ISBT. 

DAY 02Trek from Sankri to Juda Ka Taal (9050 Ft, 4 Kms,4 Hours)

  • The day will start with morning Tea at around 06:00 AM.
  • Afterwards we will have breakfast and receive a briefing session from the Trek Leader.
  • Then, we’ll start our trek from the Dense Pine Forest.
  • The first checkpoint for the day will be Juda Ka Taal Campsite, which is at a lower altitude than the Taal itself.
  • Upon reaching Juda Ka Taal Campsite, we’ll have lunch.
  • The rest of the day is at leisure.
  • Dinner will be served in the evening followed by an overnight stay at Juda Ka Taal Campsite.

DAY 03Juda Ka Taal To Kedarkantha Trek Base Camp (11200 Ft, 3 Kms,3 Hours)

  • The day will start with a morning tea followed by breakfast.
  • The Trek Leader will give you a briefing about the day before we proceed.
  • Afterward, we’ll start the trek towards the Kedarkantha Base Camp, which takes about 3-4 hours.
  • Upon reaching and checking into the campsite, we’ll have a warm lunch.
  • The rest of the day is at leisure and we’ll relax by indulging in activities like snowball fights and other fun games.
  • Lastly, we’ll have dinner at the campsite followed by an overnight stay at Kedarkantha Base Camp.

Day 4 Trek To Kedarkantha Peak (12,500 Ft) and Back To Juda ka Taal (9 Kilometers, 8 Hours Trek)

    • We will finally begin our trek towards Kedarkantha Peak.
    • We’ll get up at 02:00 AM in the morning as we’ll be needing an early start.
    • Afterwards, the group will trek up to the Kedarkantha Summit.
    • After reaching the summit, we’ll enjoy the view from the top and witness the beautiful sunrise from the summit..
    • Shortly afterwards, we’ll head back to the Kedarkantha Base Camp once again.
    • Upon reaching, Lunch will be served at the campsite.
    • It’s last night at the campsite so we will have a farewell bash.
    • Overnight stay at Juda ka Taal.

    *Additionally, you get a 360-degree view of the whole Himalayan Region from the Kedarkantha Top. Some of the peaks are Gangotri, Swargarohini, Banderpooch, Kinner Kailash, etc.

DAY 05 Juda ka Taal To Sankri Base Village (4 Kilometer Trek) and Back To Dehradun (08 Hours Drive)

  • After an early morning breakfast, we’ll head down towards the Sankri Village from Juda ka Taal Campsite.
  • Upon reaching Sankri, we’ll stop and freshen up at our designated hotel, lunch will be provided.
  • Shortly afterward, we’ll proceed towards Dehradun. (Reach Dehradun by late evening.)
  • The group will disassemble here and be on their separate ways with a heart full of content and mind full of memories.

INCLUSIONS

  • Accommodation: 1 Night in a Hotel / Homestay on a triple/quad sharing basis. 3 Nights accommodation in a tent on a triple sharing basis.
  • Transportation: Surface transfer from Dehradun - Sankri - Dehradun by Sumo / Bolero / Tempo Traveller ( Depends on the number of travelers).
  • Meals: All Meals from (Day 1 Dinner to Day 5 Lunch) are included. We provide simple nutritious vegetarian food on all days of the trek.
  • Snacks: Morning / Evening Tea / Coffee with light snacks and soup while on the trek.
  • Camping logistics: Tent, Sleeping bags, Mattresses, Dining tent, Toilet tent, Sitting Stools
  • Trek Leader Qualified and Experienced Trek leader and support staff.
  • Permits: All necessary fees and permits.
  • Trekking Equipment: Gaiters, Micro Spikes, and Rope if required.
  • Safety Equipment: Basic First Aid kit with Oximeter and Oxygen Cylinder.
  • Free access to "Winter Workshops" & One-On-One Briefing Session either Online/Offline at our Office

EXCLUSIONS

  • Any expenses of personal nature.
  • Meals during transit.
  • Insurance of any kind.
  • Any fees and permits (for non-Indians).
  • Unscheduled delay due to a landslide.
  • Cost Escalation due to “Force Majeure and Evacuation charges”.
  • Anything not mentioned explicitly in the above program.

Cancellation Policy

  • No cancellations will be taken over call or whatsApp msg. Please reply in email with payment receipt that you have received at the time of booking.
  • No Show . No refund.
  • If remaining payment is not received 7 days before  the event start date, Your slot is assumed to be cancelled. 
  • Incase of government orders, harsh weather conditions , protests , landslides or any other unforeseen circumstances , we work out the best possible alternate plans or trips/treks. At times even certain activities are cancelled , the organisation provides the best alternate but no refunds are provided.
  • If a trek is called off at the last moment due to a natural calamity/unforeseen circumstances (like rain, snowfall, earthquake, landslides, strike, bandh etc.), Offbeat Compass will issue a trek voucher for the full amount and if possible will provide an alternate trek. The voucher can be redeemed upto same amount for the same trek or another trek in the next 365 days from the trek departure date.
  • If a trek or trip cannot be completed due to natural calamity/unforeseen circumstances (like rain, snowfall, earthquake, landslides, strike, bandh etc.). No refund would be provided.
  • Any extra expense coming due to any natural calamity/unforeseen circumstances (like rain, snowfall, earthquake, landslides, strike, bandh, Train Cancellations etc.), Will be beared by customer. Offbeat Compass will not be liable.

REFUND POLICY

  • Initial Payment is NON transferable and NON Refundable
  • If you cancel your trip 7 days before the event start date – Trek Voucher worth 80% of the Remaining Payment Component would be given.
  • If you cancel your trip Between 7 to 3 days of the event Start date – Trek Voucher worth 50% of the Remaining Payment Component would be given.
  • If you cancel your trip Between 2 days to 0 days – No Voucher or refund would be given.

When does it snow at Kedarkantha ?

First snowfall usually occurs around Nov end. However, the main snow season lasts from mid December to March end.

Is this trek suitable for kids ?

It is ideally recommended for 7+ age kids.

Is this trail safe for women & solo travelers ?

Yes, in fact all the Himalayan trails are quite safe for women & solo travelers. People of the region are very warm, caring & hospitable in nature.

What type of accommodation is available during this trek ?

Home Stay at Sankri (2 nights) & Camp Stay on trek (3 nights).

Is trekking gear available on rent at Sankri ?

Yes, there are 2-3 trekking gear rental stores at village Sankri. Our staff at Sankri will guide & help you regarding renting essential trek gear as per your requirement.

How cold does it really get on the kedarkanta trek

First two days temperature is normal as you don’t find snow. Afterwards you can see the snow but in day time sunlight is good and weather is clear but you have to dress yourself in layers in night. The temperature will be between 10 to -8 degrees.

How long do we walk each day?

Average walking distance is 4-5 km an each day. As trek is easy so walking will not be a problem for anyone.

Who will lead and who all will go along with us?

Always trek leads by professional Trek leader who complete Basic and Advance mountaineering course and certified in first-aid course and along with one local guide, cook, helper, porter and other staff.

How big are the groups?

Normally we take 15-20 people in one batch including male and female.

Is offloading available?

  • Yes, But you should intimate 15 days in advance, so that we will arrange the porter or mule accordingly.
